Maryland Got The Best Recruit In NCAA History: Olympic Gold Medalist Quincy Wilson

MD - Head coach Andrew Valmon announced today that Olympic Gold medalist and Under 18 400-meter world record holder Quincy Wilson (Gaithersburg, MD) has officially signed with the Maryland track and field program. Last year at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Wilson became the youngest track and field male Olympian in United States history when he was a member of the 4x400 meter relay pool.

Do you guys remember this lad Quincy Wilson? An Olympic gold medalist at 16 years old.

One of the best tweets. He had to run to Target after winning a gold medal vs grown ass men to get folders and binders for science class. It's INSANE to be 16 years old and competing against the world's most accomplished athletes at 16 years old. Most people can't even wipe their own ass properly, and he was out there winning gold for team USA. So I think it's safe to say he is the best recruit in Maryland history.

It does make me laugh athletes can win gold medals and then go to college and just whoop up on these poor kids. You have to remember the levels to how elite some of these people are- the difference between NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist is massive. There's a famous story about Kurt Angle (Olympic gold medalist with a broken freakin' neck) wrestling Brock Lesnar (NCAA heavyweight champion, could snap you like a twig) and Kurt pinning him. So for a 16 year old to win a medal on Team USA's 4x4 team and then commit to be a Terp? Bananas.

And let me say this- I love watching Track. I think it's our most under-appreciated spectator sport. Watching these guys battle it out in the 200, 400, 800, 1500...I love it. It's tantalizing television. These runners should be superstars. I'm mad at myself right now typing this blog because I remember there being an AWESOME finish in a race around June or so and I can't find it. And I should be able to find it! We need to pay more attention to track and field. That will be my goal for 2026.
