After Yesterday's Atrocity Of a Performance in Green Bay, JJ McCarthy Is Now Conveniently In Concussion Protocol

The JJ McCarthy saga has me mesmerized. I simply can't get enough of it.

Let's briefly recap.

After sitting out all of last year due to injury, he made his regular season debut against the Bears in Week 1 and won, inexplicably earning himself the NFC player of the week award despite extremely normal numbers. He followed that up with a dismal effort against the Falcons. Then out of nowhere, with no signs of an injury occurring, he wound up on the mend with a high ankle sprain. Some suspected this was a soft benching, after putting forth 7 bad quarters of play out of a potential 8. Maybe he just heals longer than literally any other human being on Earth. Who's to say? McCarthy didn't play again until Week 9. Seven weeks of being on the sidelines with an ankle sprain. In the mean time Carson Wentz was put out there to die, literally die.

Only when Wentz was left to his final breaths did JJ's ankle magically become healed. What timing! The Vikings beat the Lions with JJ and thus his alter ego "Nine" became a thing.

Since then it's been incredibly ugly…

That stretch was capped off with one of the worst QB performances you'll ever see against the Packers yesterday. It was so bad that if JJ spiked the ball on every pass he would have had a higher QB rating. We've gotta dive down to the depths of JaMarcus Russell to describe how bad we're watching the quarterback position be played.

So now what? With the season down the drain and the terrifying Seattle Seahawks defense up next, how bad is this about to get? Can it get worse? Should it be allowed to get worse?

Yesterday I joked that the team should fake another ankle sprain for JJ to put him out of his own misery. Turns out they went with the concussion route.

Does make you think if someone on the Vikings had this typed into Google on the flight

Whether he actually got a concussion in the Packers game (he never once entered the blue tent), the team gave him one in his sleep, or he's just getting the week off with another soft benching, I'm fascinated to see what Max Brosmer looks like if he in fact gets the start.

While I don't think undrafted free agent Max Brosmer is going to have any sort of success out there, I almost think KOC has to tank the play calls to make sure he doesn't do well. Just imagine Brosmer looks anywhere close to competent against Seattle. FOX would cut to JJ on the sideline every play. You almost need to make sure he stays home for the game in case that happens. If Brosmer looks solid there's no turning back to JJ ever again. You can't.

Quick advice for Max, THROW TO JUSTIN JEFFERSON!!! In JJ's four games since coming back off the mend, Jefferson has amassed 50 yards one single time. How is that possible? We're talking one of the best pass catchers in the whole sport without question and JJ can't get him the ball. That's what makes this even worse than other failed young QBs who can't get off the mat. JJ is in a great situation. KOC is known for reclamation projects. The offense is loaded with talent and the defense more than keeps them in games. This isn't the New Orleans Saints. If you look like JaMarcus Russell with a team that won 14 games last year, then when will it ever work? It's not good. It's actually very bad.

It would be INCREDIBLE if Max Brosmer gets the Vikings offense going on Sunday. Odds are it'll be really bad, but statistically the numbers back up that JJ is playing as poorly as humanly possible. Fun times in Minnesota.
