'Imagine What a Full Offseason Looks Like!': Shedeur Sanders Had an All Time Reaction to Winning His First Career Start.
Say what you will about Shedeur Sanders reacting like this to winning his first career start. Though he did some rare things in this one:
SI - Shedeur Sanders got his first start for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon vs the Las Vegas Raiders, and he did not disappoint.
The Browns were 2-8 coming into this game and had not won a road game this season and dating back to September 15th, Week 2 of last year. ...
[Also] snapping the 0-17 record that Browns quarterbacks had in their first career start dating back to 1995.
That wasn’t the only record that Shedeur broke, though, as per ESPN Research, Shedeur’s 10.5 yards per attempt was the most for a quarterback in the first career start since 2022 (Jarrett Stidham, 10.7). The 10.5 yards was also the highest number by a Browns quarterback since 2005 (Charlie Fry, 11.3).
Shedeur finished the day with 209 yards on just 11 completions, highlighted by the 52-yard throw on the run to Isaiah Bond to set up the Browns' second touchdown. Shedeur’s first touchdown pass came on a swing pass to Dylan Sampson, where the blocking was great, clearing a path for Sampson to run 66 yards for a score. ...
Shedeur’s 52-yard completion to Bond was also the Browns' longest completion by air yards (42) since 2023.
“I’m who they’ve been looking for,” is also a comment that Shedeur made regarding the Browns quarterback struggles, and he is making his case.
To some, those are going to be bold claims from a guy with one career start. One in which he posted a line of 11-of-20, 209 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, and a passer rating of 87.3, which is well below the league average of 92.3, and would put him between Tua Tagovailoa and Spencer Rattler for 25th in the league. And combined with his stat line from last week, gives him a 52.5 rating, which puts him 62nd among all passers.
So sure, there'll be no shortage of football purists saying this is why every team in the league passed on Sanders for the first 143 picks in the draft. That he's a guy with all the braggadocio of his father but none of the supreme talent.
And they might have a point. Or would, if it wasn't for the fact this is a trend in the league. I mean, have we forgotten Jaxson Dart?
Or JJ McCarthy giving himself an alter ego?
And then playing so bad that Nine is about to come up with an alter ego of his own so he doesn't have to be associated with JJ McCarthy?
So yes, opinions will differ on Sanders leaning so far out over his skis so soon. Your mileage may vary on him. He's either an inspirational figure who refuses to listen to his doubters and is now on his personal quest to prove them wrong, or he's a Nepo Baby with a deep streak of unearned confidence that will be his undoing. Only time will tell who's right.
But regardless, whatever you think, the one thing we can all agree on is this guy is not going to be boring. He's pushing his chips into the middle of the table after just one game and daring the rest of the NFL to call or raise. He's going to either bring down the house or go bust. He's either going to fly to the moon or explode on the launch pad. Prove he's got the biggest swinging dong in the league or get his nuts kicked in. Either way, it's going to be spectacular. And by already talking this way, and calling attention to himself, he's making it impossible for anybody to look away.
And for that, anyone with an appreciation for great drama has to be grateful to the man. No matter what happens, whether Shedeur Sanders backs up the brash talk like a modern day Muhammed Ali or becomes the next Johnny Manziel. Whether he takes over the NFL and makes fools of every one of his detractors or tailspins into a fiery crash and burn. Regardless, he's going to be a hell of a story. Here's hoping Kevin Stefanski does the right thing and keeps him in the starting lineup for as long as it takes for us to find out.
