WHOA! The Mets Just Traded Brandon Nimmo To The Rangers For Marcus Semien

I know we all read the rumors that the Mets were thinking of potentially moving Brandon Nimmo and heard David Stearns constantly hammer home he had to improve the Mets defense run prevention after the end of the nightmare that was the 2025 season. But actually seeing a Met since 2016 get moved after all the memories he produced in Flushing is still shocking to actually see happen.

I honestly don't know how to feel about this since I felt like it was time for some of the core to get broken up and Nimmo was locked into a deal through the 2030 season that has already seen him get moved from center field to left field on a team that has multiple long-term DH candidates. He also was a pretty damn good offensive player when things were going right and really endeared himself to the fanbase by sheer will of lasting through all the bullshit during his 1000+ games here. Plus he drove opposing fans nuts by running to first after drawing a walk, which I always loved, and he warmed up with a sledgehammer in the on deck circle like a baseball version of HHH.

As for Semien, he is just one of those players that existed in the AL that I didn't really have an opinion on outside of him playing almost every game for years before he missed a handful last season and has a contract that runs through 2028. So I went to our resident baseball junkie Meek Phill, who said this is clearly a move for defense, which I am fine with considering the state of Jeff McNeil and Luisangel Acuna these days. The Mets may have traded offense, but they can still pick it back up in the trade or free agent market, which will lead to countless Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger photoshops in a Mets jersey now.

So I'll wait for things to shake out the rest of the offseason before I get too high or low. Unfortunately that llikely means waiting until March Madness since MLB free agency takes FOR-EV-ER (said in Squint's voice obviously). Thanks for the memories Brandon and best of luck to the Rangers with yet another ex-Met. Now we brace for which player gets traded from Queens next…
