Klay Thompson Completely Eviscerated Ja Morant After He Tried Talking Shit Following A Grizzlies Win
Joe Murphy. Getty Images. In the event you weren't locked into the 6-11 Grizzlies playing the 5-13 Mavs on Saturday night, we had ourselves a little bit of a situation following the Grizzlies' 102-96 road win. Now when I say "situation" while referencing the NBA, it's important to know that usually means some sort of "HOLLLDDD ME BACCKKKK" moment.
This time, it was more Ja Morant talking shit to Klay Thompson, and then Klay Thompson immediately shredding him to pieces.
It all stems from this little postgame interaction, where you can very clearly see Ja Morant calling Klay Thompson a bum. Damn, what a burn. Let's all just take a second and let Klay recover from that dig.
Here's the thing. Is Klay still the Klay of old? No. I wouldn't exactly say that. He's also 35 years old. His place in NBA history is already cemented as a first ballot HOFer and one of the greatest shooters in league history. Him showing any sort of decline as a player is a pretty normal thing to have happen at that age coming off the injuries that Klay has had.
Ja Morant on the other hand, is currently shooting 35/16% this season. He, is very much playing like a bum, and he's only 26. Not exactly the best example of self-awareness I've ever seen. When you're on the court play is pretty gross, and depending on who you believe, the team may be trying to trade you, I wouldn't really go around calling other players bums, especially one who is a 4x champion and HOF player.
Naturally, Klay was asked about this after the game, and well, he went in
You should remember, Klay Thompson and the Grizzlies have a past. Back in 2022 there was some back and forth between the two teams, and it was one of the first things Klay Thompson brought up after winning the 2022 NBA title (sigh)
Man, NBA players love calling other players bums huh? That player was JJJ by the way if you weren't aware.
In 2023, there was the famous Klay counting to four moment
So I can't say that I'm surprised that Ja Morant may not be his biggest fan, even with Klay now being on the Mavericks. At the same time, nothing Klay said was wrong. Ja does talk a lot. There's certainly been more talk than winning recently, that's for sure. All Klay did was tell the truth, because really that's all that was needed. It always seems to be someone else's fault in Memphis and Ja is never really on the court. Those are factually correct. As I said above, the problem is now that even when he is this season, it hasn't been good. So you're really getting it from both ends on that one.
I do also feel a little bad for Klay, because he took less money to come to Dallas and play with Luka, only for Nico Harrison to not only trade Luka, but also destroy the Mavs' entire roster and future. That's tough. Hopefully they can flip him for any type of asset at the deadline so he can have a better situation to round out his career. Then again, he's a great vet to have around Cooper Flagg (who is on a tear right now by the way) so maybe he's stuck.
Either way, pretty tough moment for Ja Morant here in a season that's already been filled with plenty of tough moments and we aren't even at Thanksgiving yet. Classic NBA.
Anyway, here's some Prime Klay to help you kill time until kickoff
