Memphis Just Lost A Game At The Buzzer And Has No One To Blame But Themselves
Time and Score! Time and Score! Time and FUCKING SCORE!
Listen, I know that a buzzer beater on a Friday night doesn't move the needle like it does in March but I was watching while flipping around and decided to pen up a blog instead of run on my treadmill and grunt loudly and annoyingly to the people around me, or go to a jam band concert, felt it was more productive. Anyway, this isn't about the buzzer beater it's about having awareness of game situations and players not understanding the right way to play the game and it drives me insane.
Let's set the stage ...
Memphis up 2 late inside 20 seconds and has to shoot. They do, where Zach Davis gets his own rebound and INEXCLIBABLY PUTS the ball back up. THEY ARE WINNING! YOU DON'T NEED TO SHOOT! Now I know a layup is not a "bad shot" but it was contested ... and again THEY DIDN'T NEED TO SHOOT! Players need to know the time and score, it's so fucking frustrating. I called it in real time.
And Memphis fans were very quick to voice their frustrations with Penny.
Anyway. Memphis fouls on the missed put back (that again they didn't have to shoot), Wake drills both. Memphis gets bailed out with a foul, hits both, but then gives up a 3 at the buzzer to lose on a beuatiful play called "Pacer" made famous by Bryce Drew.
1 play never wins or loses you a game, but I will say Memphis putting the ball back with a shot when it didn't have to defintely didn't help win them the game that's for shit sure. To all you coaches out there … TEACH YOUR KIDS TIME AND SCORE! PLEASE!
