Lane Kiffin Flatly Denied That Ole Miss Has Imposed A Deadline For Him To Make A Decision About Where He Is Coaching Next Season

Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin went on the Pat McAfee Show this morning to address a rumor that Ole Miss gave him a deadline to make his decision on whether to stay in Oxford or go to Baton Rouge or Gainesville. Lane flatly denied it and said it is "absolutely not true".

I honestly do not know if there was a real deadline either from Athletic Director Keith Carter. It is hard to gauge anything in this daily circus at this point. Lane knows his worth and value after taking Ole Miss to the doorstep of the College Football Playoffs with a 10-1 record. The program has reached heights not seen in 60 years.

He also has the most powerful agent in the sport in Jimmy Sexton in his ear playing hardball. Kiffin has so much leverage with Ole Miss, LSU & Florida all firing eight figure yearly salaries at him and wants to not rush the decision.

The man I feel horrible for in this whole saga is Ole Miss AD Keith Carter. The only real leverage Ole Miss has is to make Lane walk away from his team before the Egg Bowl or Playoffs if he is leaving but how the hell can you do that?!?!?

This is the best season in over 60 years for Ole Miss football. Does Keith really have the stones to not allow Lane to see it through?

In Carter's defense, there are so many jobs open right now and Ole Miss MUST dodge a scenario where Lane bolts after a playoff loss when all the jobs are already filled facing a Jan 2nd transfer portal window.

My best guess is Lane is trying to drag this out through the Egg Bowl next Friday and then will make a decision before the playoffs but what the heck do I know?

Just gotta continue hold on tight and enjoy the wild ride. And Lane would not have it any other way....
