An Internet Star Was Born at the Georgia-Texas Game
As a gentleman of a certain age who is blessed with the gift (some would consider it a curse) of self-awareness, I take a careful approach when the subject is young ladies. There's a delicate balance to it. You're walking a razor's edge. When a friend or neighbor posts a photo of their daughter dressed for Prom or in the costume she's wearing in a play, you choose your words with the utmost care. You need to lean into the "You should be proud of what a fine young woman you've raised" aspect, and say nothing of the outfit. Handle yourself correctly, and you're a supportive friend with children of your own. One tiny misstep, and you might as well be walking into a kitchen being greeted by a Dateline crew and Chris Hanson telling you to "Have a seat."
Developing those important social skills will not only be good for your soul, it will keep you from being fitted for a court-ordered ankle bracelet. As well as come in handy when it's your job to appeal to a largely male, mostly young demographic. Because sometimes you have to follow where the news takes you, and you can't afford to come away from that trail with the stench of creep all over you.
This is one of those times.:
NY Post - A female Georgia fan has the internet buzzing after she was shown on the ESPN broadcast during Saturday’s 35-10 win over Texas.
The beautiful brunette, who was holding a red pom-pom in the stands and cheering as the Bulldogs were blowing out the Longhorns at Sanford Stadium, has been identified as Harley, with the TikTok handle @harlyisbae, according to The Spun.
Harley appears to a freshman at Georgia, as recent videos show her sporting Bulldogs gear in her dorm room.
She also shared a video in support of the Bulldogs ahead of Saturday’s clash.
“GO DAWGS BEAT TEXAS,” she caption her post. ...
[A] viral tweet has nearly 4 million views as of Monday.
Harley has since garnered thousands of new followers on TikTok, according to with The Spun.
You'll simply have to forgive me if I don't add much to this discussion. Other than to say this. If every Commencement Address I've ever been forced to sit and listen to is correct, than college is all about helping young people learn the skills that will give them future success. If in any way this viral moment can help this UGA student and Bulldogs fan achieve her dreams and become a leader of tomorrow, then it's a pure good. And based on the numbers her recent posts have been getting, appearing on ESPN certainly hasn't seemed to hurt.
So good for you, Harley. I speak for everyone when I hope this notoriety works out for you. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
