Lane Watch: The Most Expensive House in Gainesville, Florida Seems To Have Gone Under Contract Yesterday
You've heard of flight tracking, but have you ever been in the trenches of Zillow during a coaching search?
Amid reports that Lane Kiffin's family visited both Gainesville, Fla., and Baton Rouge, La., in the last couple days, an interesting home in Central Florida was taken off the market on Monday. 3023 SW 111th Way, the most expensive home for sale in Gainesville, was put under contract for nearly $3.3 million, leading people to speculate who the porspective buyer could possibly be. The home was previously owned by Dan Mullen when he was the head coach at Florida.
It seems pretty unlikely to me that Kiffin's family would have gone to Gainesville, scouted the place out, decided Lane would take the UF job and then bought a house in the span of 24 hours — all without any news leaking that he was going to leave Ole Miss — but it would also be a remarkable coincidence for this particular home to go off the market right now. Maybe whoever bought it just has a great sense of humor.
Whether this is actually a noteworthy piece of evidence or not in the Lane Kiffin saga remains to be seen, but it's why college football is the best regardless. I don't think many NFL fans could even tell you the name of their team's head coach's wife, but there are millions of people in Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana right now tracking every move of the Kiffin family and getting e-mail alerts from Zillow about future potential houses for their next head coach.
Only time will tell.
