Just In Time To React To This Very Annoying Red Sox 'Report' - It's Episode #2 of Dirty Water - A Boston Sports Podcast
Well, that didn't take long.
Mere weeks removed from Craig Breslow and Sam Kennedy using phrases like "window of contention" and "significant improvement," we get a national report pushing back on that idea.
Jon Morosi went on MLB Network and basically said the Red Sox will be major players for Pete Alonso IF they don't bring back Alex Bregman.
“Either they bring back Bregman or they make an all-out pursuit of Pete Alonso. I like their chances to get one or the other.”
Did I miss the announcement that Alonso is moving to third base? Last I checked, he played first base and hit a bunch of home runs. And Bregman is a damn good third baseman.
Why can't the Red Sox sign both?

According to Forbes, the Red Sox are worth almost $5 Billion with a B dollars.
Just bringing back Bregman or signing Alonso is not getting better - it's maintaining. If you want to argue that any two of Bregman, Alonso, and Kyle Schwarber represent a real upgrade, I'd agree. But one of them does not.
And now the Bo Bichette Buzz is starting. I've seen a push from some fans to sign the younger Bichette and replace Bregman at third. That would be a massive downgrade defensively and in the clubhouse, where Bregman became a real leader in just one season. I am against that move.
But, if you told me of Bichette, Bregman, Alonso, and Schwarber, the Red Sox get two of those players? Yes, that would be an overall upgrade on offense. But based on this Morosi report, I'm already prepared to be disappointed. Baseball's Interest Kings proudly earned that moniker.
I wonder who is talking to Morosi. Or Jeff Passan, who wrote last week, "As long as Red Sox ownership keeps the financial clamps on chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, he'll need to get creative in improving a Red Sox team that's already quite good."
Is there a chance Breslow is leaking this in an effort to get Sox Ownership to crank up the spending? I'd be okay with that.
Thankfully, there is a place for an old baseball fan like me to complain about all of this.
Episode 2 of Dirty Water - A Boston Sports Podcast - is out now everywhere.
Hogdale, KutterisKing, and I talk about the annoying Morosi report. Plus, the Sox plans to build a SuperPen, Josh Naylor's new deal with the Mariners, the 2026 Baseball Hall of Fame nominees, and Hog's Grandma loves to play slot machines.
Plus, Hog almost cut his hand off, which national baseball writers to trust, and so much more.
New episodes every Monday during this long MLB offseason, and then whenever real Sox news breaks.
Hopefully, that will be soon.
