UMass Football Getting Blown Out Gives Us One Of The Funniest Moments Of The College Football Season

I actually don't hate this.

UMass Football is bad. Like, bad, bad.

We're talking 0-10 on the season and now ranked 136th out of 136 in the College Football Power Index. Dead. Last.

Wednesday night, they hosted 2-7 Northern Illinois for some quality MACTion.

It got ugly early.

This miscommunication led to a 17-0 NIU first-half lead. UMass trailed 31-0 at the half to a team that came into the game 2-7 overall. In fact, NIU had scored 31 points TOTAL in their last three games, which came against powerhouses Toledo, Ball State, and Ohio.

With under seven minutes to play, UMass trailed NIU 45-0 and decided to attempt a 44-yard field goal and try to avoid the shutout.

Because as every ball-knower in the comments knows, 45-3 looks much more respectable on the scoreboard than 45-0.

Field goal good, commence fireworks! And you know what? I would have laughed, too. Embrace the suck. Have some fun with it. I'm sure that team had nothing to do with it, and it was all part of the gameday presentation, so it doesn't make them look any worse than their own play on the field.

There were the obvious replies, like this one.

Here's My SpinZone This moment might go viral enough to force the school to invest more money in the program. Maybe a wealthy UMass donor decides to throw a few million in NIL money their way. This could ultimately be the fireworks display that saves the program!

The pyrotechnics were much more funny than they were pathetic. Pathetic is what has happened 90 miles west, to Boston College athletics. The Eagles are the laughing stock of the ACC, in both football and men's basketball.

I mean, look at this shit. BC is so bad that it's chasing away its fan media!

But this is not about the super embarrassing Boston College Eagles; this is about UMass. There were never any real expectations for UMass football. Yes, they're having a terrible year. But look, they have these diehards who stuck around to the end last night.

Good for these guys. Zero quit here and wayyyyyyy more passion than Boston College fans. Show them those 45-3 fireworks! Embrace the suck!

I'll be rooting for UMass to bounce back. I can't say the same for Boston College. Thankfully, for real college football fans in New England, there is a beacon of hope in East Hartford, CT.

UMass will host Bowling Green on Tuesday, November 25, to end its season. I'll be cheering them on for the win. But if the school has any sense of humor, they'll go WAY overboard with fireworks with every score. Right?

At this point, why not?
