Tony Allen Arrested on Drug Charges, In Partial Thanks To Professional Wrestler/Driver Bam Bam Bundy, Who May Be The Biggest Liability Ever (Or Extremely Ride-or-Die)
In the first tweet I came across regarding this Tony Allen arrest, the only video featured was this clip of Tony Allen's "friend" taking 100% ownership of the cocaine (and meth) in the vehicle.
I thought, "Damn, this guy is ride-or-die. All ex-athletes should be so lucky to have a friend like Professional Wrestler/Driver Bam Bam Bundy."
Turns out that might not be the case. If Tony Allen (and Kendrick Perkins) are to be believed, that is.
Either what they're saying about the cocaine & meth is true, or Bam Bam Bundy is one hell of a person to have in your corner. But personally, I believe them. I don't think Tony Allen is this good of an actor.
Honestly a pretty fair reaction. A stupid reaction in the face of a cop. Getting visibly upset with a police officer is never helping your case. But if I'm a former NBA player going to do a podcast, and the people who are having me on say, "Don't worry about getting an Uber. We'll send someone to pick you up.". Then the person they sent can't keep his car (that he knows has cocaine and meth in it) between the white lines… to the point that the cops pull them over. I'd be pretty pissed-off too. You gotta be driving like a real negligent asshole to get pulled over for, as TMZ puts it, "improperly changing lanes".
TMZ – Poinsett County Sheriff Kevin Molder tells TMZ … Allen was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over after the driver improperly changed lanes on an interstate about 50 miles from Memphis.
That being said, the weed was Tony Allen's. If it's a situation where the cops never would have had grounds to search the car unless they smelled weed, that makes it a little bit on Tony. Not the other stuff. If Tony Allen comes out of this with nothing but a marijuana charge, that seems pretty justified. Recreational marijuana is illegal in Arkansas. I'm assuming Tony Allen doesn't have his Arkansas medical card. Regardless, a simple charge for a small amount of weed… I'd image Tony Allen can handle that without too much trouble.
But I'd still be pretty livid that fucking Bam Bam couldn't drive straight. I'd be pretty annoyed that this was the car they decided to send for me. They got Tony Allen sitting on a damn towel in the passenger seat. Who the hell is sending that shitty car to pick someone up. If you're going to offer someone a ride for something even remotely professional, at least make sure the guy cleans the trash out of his backseat.
But if Tony Allen got in that car with less than 4 grams of weed, and completely unbeknownst to him, his driver had less than 2 grams of coke and meth…
USA Today – Allen, who was booked under his given name, Anthony, and Hatton were both charged with possession of meth or cocaine less than two grams, and possession of marijuana, less than four grams, and taken to the Poinsett County Detention Center in Harrisburg, Arkansas.
If we're taking what's being said by both parties involved in this situation at face value, Tony Allen walking out of this with a felony narcotics possession would be so fucked up. I hate the idea that you can potentially get in trouble for being in a car with somebody who has drugs on them, despite you not having the slightest clue. I guess you're just supposed to only get in cars with people you trust? To fully vet everyone you get in a car with? Even if it's a "professional driver" (except looking at that car… calling that a professional driver seems like a bit of a stretch). But I'd still like to think if one person is adamantly taking responsibility for something, that the courts would listen to reason.
Since the arrest, Tony Allen released this statement on Instagram.
“I want to be very clear: I was not in possession of, nor was I aware of, the illegal drugs found in the vehicle that belonged to the driver. I have never used cocaine or methamphetamine, and these substances do not reflect who I am or my values,” Allen wrote.
Unless proven otherwise, I gotta take Tony and Bam Bam's word for it. To be honest, I feel like meth being found along with the cocaine kinda helps Tony's case. Either of those two could be coke guys. But if I had to stereotype the meth guy in that car… I'm going with the low-level professional wrestler over the ex-NBA player.
