The Starbucks 'Bearista' Cup Is Tearing America Apart and Already Selling for $300 on eBay

If you turn on the news or doomscroll on social media, you're bound to think the world is in the worst state it's ever been and everyone is out to get one another. But then you walk outside and it's a nice reminder that for the most part, things are pretty good — as long as you don't go to a Starbucks right now, because there are people ready to rip someone else's head off to obtain a teddy bear cup.

That's right, folks, the "Bearista" is here and it's the latest cup turning otherwise seemingly normal Americans into lunatics. Starbucks locations across the country were sold out of the Bearista as soon as they opened on Thursday, with dozens of the cups already listed on eBay for hundreds of dollars.

I called the Starbucks closest to the Chicago office to see if they had any of these and the woman on the phone just started laughing at me. Apparently you needed to be in line by 4 a.m. on Thursday to even have a chance to become a Bearista owner at retail price.

I understand there's a market for anything and I've spent good money on eBay for things some people might consider stupid and lacking utility. But I am very much struggling to see the value in a $300 bear wearing a Starbucks beanie. And if these things really are ripping like this, Starbucks needs to either ship out thousands more immediately or raise the price by about 500 percent, because they're missing out on a ton of cash.

For those interested in literally the exact same cup minus the Starbucks branding, you can get one from Wal-Mart for $22.
