Despite The Rumors, I Still Feel Good About Lane Kiffin Staying At Ole Miss

A report leaked out that Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin met with Athletic Director Keith Carter earlier this week. The word on the street is that Lane told the Ole Miss AD "He owed it to himself to see what offers are out there". Given Lane's nomadic past, this caused quite the stir on the internet as Lane ALWAYS does. Should Ole Miss fans be panicking?

Look this is capitalism at its finest. Lane has done the Lord's work at Ole Miss taking the football program to heights not seen since Johnny Vaught in the 1960s. With so many big jobs opening, of course his mind is going to wonder. It is human nature. Every sports show in America is talking about Lane leaving with Joel Klatt predicting a jump to LSU.

The Florida job is the most concerning. Lane has ties to the state and loves Steve Spurrier. The idea of carrying that legacy on has to be intriguing. Hell he even rocks the visor on the sidelines like the Ol' Ball Coach.

Rumors were swirling online that Florida is offering 13.5 million a year. Can Ole Miss compete with that price? Yes they can. Lane already makes 9 million a year and will undoubtably be getting another raise soon putting his salary near that ballpark.

The other biggest factors that should keep him in Oxford are his kids Landry & Knox. Landry LOVES Ole Miss even to the point of keeping Lane away from Auburn in 2022. She is a junior now and wants to graduate as a Rebel. His son Knox is a sophomore QB at Oxford High. The Chargers are a powerhouse in 6A and coached by Chris Cutcliffe (former Ole Miss coach David Cutcliffe's son). Knox is a backup this year but is in line to start the next two seasons in a great situation to develop.

I am not naive. Nothing lasts forever ESP in the crazy world of college football. But Ole Miss has the $$$ and NIL resources to continue to win big. Keith Carter is one of the top ADs in America & Walker Jones has the Grove Collective humming. Both Ole Miss coaching staff and personnel departments are damn good too.

Lane is going to flirt with Florida as is his right but ultimately he will decide to stay in Oxford once again…… (although I do not expect a deal b4 the playoffs end).

At least I damn sure hope so!
