Dan Hurley Tore Into His UConn Team During An Exhibition Game Against Michigan State And I Love It

God Bless Dan Hurley.

Leading by 16 points in the second half of an EXHIBITION GAME against Michigan State, the best coach in college basketball is just RIPPING into his team.

I'm no lip reader, but Dan seems to be asking his team at the start of this, "Are you fu**ing kidding me?" before challenging them to be better against the Spartans.

It was just a week ago that Hurley was telling everyone at Big East Media Day that he "Had a shit year last year" and was going to turn down the antics with opposing fans.

And to his credit, he's not going after the officials here. Or an opposing fanbase. He's ripping into his own team.

And I love it.

This is much different from his antics in Maui last year, where, as he admits in his new book, it was a bad scene.

"I didn't build a strong enough roster. I wasn't a good leader. I let everyone down in Maui,Hurley says in the excellent

Never Stop - Life, Leadership, and What It Takes to Be Great. "I lost control, emotionally, at various points. I came in here some days sad and defeated, when I needed to be positive and inspiring."

No, in Maui, Hurley became a sideshow because of his reactions to officials' calls (some atrocious calls by the way) over the course of the tournament. Then, after the Maui, he said he was never coming back to that event.

Boy, he must love this year's UConn team. To dig into them this hard during an exhibition game before Halloween signals that.

And as both a die-hard UConn fan and a card-carrying member of The Dan Hurley Fan Club, that's the first reason I love this: it shows how GOOD he thinks this group can be - so much so that he feels the need to get after them this hard in October.

I love it because it shows that, while he might change how he responds to opposing fans and to the officials, he's not going to change who he is as a coach.

I also love it because, like, I want my own kids to be coached this hard. I think there's a benefit to hard coaching, at any age. I grew up on hard coaching like this, and I'm guessing that some of you reading this who are about the same age did too.

Dan Hurley coaches his guys hard and expects a lot out of them. Good.

I could go on about the impact of Georgia transfer Silas Demary Jr. and how he was born to play point guard for UConn. Or how dominant Tarris Reed Jr. will be this season, but there's plenty of time for that.

Yeah, if UConn is as good as I think they are this season, I'm going to be pretty obnoxious about it, here and everywhere else.

Based on the way he tore into his team Tuesday night, I think Dan Hurley must think this team is going to be pretty damn good, too.
