Trevor Zegras Is One Sick Puppy
Icon Sportswire. Getty Images.The knock on Trevor Zegras has been that he plays "Tik Tok" hockey. A soft brand of hockey that is great for clicks, but not so much for wins. It's flashy, it's exciting, but it's not what it takes to make winning plays in the National Hockey League.
This was a winning play last night against the 2x defending champs.
He has 2 mutants barreling down on him behind the net. Aaron Ekblad and Sam Bennett. 2 guys who love to hand out some greasy hits to injure opponents whenever they get the chance. Zegras knows he's probably going to get killed here, but he stays in the pocket to make a play. He's not afraid to take the hit, he doesn't turn his back to them. He just makes a sick, disgusting play to get around both of them, and tees up Sean Couturier for the game winner.
He's still a pretty young kid in this league. He's 24-years-old. He gets traded to Philadelphia, and I'm sure that caused him to do a little soul searching. He has plenty of time to learn how to be a complete hockey player instead of just a skills competition assassin. That assist last night looks like he's on his way.
