Tough Sunday For Mark Sanchez - Discharged From Hospital, Went Straight to Jail, Mother of His Child Says, "None of This is Surprising"
What a week for Mark Sanchez. I'd have thought there was nothing Mark could have done with his life make his infamous Butt Fumble second billing behind his name. Honestly, at the end of the day, I'm still not sure being stabbed by a 69-year old greaseman because you allegedly viscously attacked him after he got in the way of your drunk wind sprints behind a bar will overtake the Butt Fumble as first thought when you bring up Mark Sanchez. But it's comes closer than anything else. Much like the Butt Fumble, it's certainly going to trump going 4-2 vs Tom Brady, beating the Patriots in the playoffs, and leading the New York Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games.
Ironically, the Butt Fumble just went from the most embarrassing moment of Mark Sanchez's life, to something he now hopes is seared into people's minds enough that is that first thought they have when they think of him. From now on, when he sees a group of drunk Jets fans coming his way, he'll probably be praying "Please just make a Butt Fumble joke. Please just make a Butt Fumble joke.."
Mark Sanchez was finally released from the hospital yesterday morning. Sadly he was not immediately put on a jet and flown to be on the call of an NFL game. I wish they would have made him do that. Unfortunately, Mark had other more pressing obligations he was immediately responsible for yesterday. Like reporting directly to jail. But not before giving a quick post-game interview.
Sad interview. You almost feel bad for the guy until you remember the picture (warning, it's not pretty) of the man he reportedly attacked. When the news of this story first broke last weekend, the internet went so quickly from "Holy shit pray for Mark Sanchez", to "Holy shit what a piece of shit", as soon as the full story came to light. I had almost completely forgotten that he legitimately almost died. Which obviously, assuming everything that's being reported is true, he 100% brought on himself. So it's hard to feel too bad. But still… the whole thing is… dark.
And just to pour a little salt on the wound, the mother of Mark Sanchez's 8-year old child, Erin Campaneris (aka UK-model Bobby T)…
Dropped this quote about her ex's current situation.
NY Post – “I am aware of the serious criminal charges currently facing my son’s father, Mark Sanchez,” she wrote on her Instagram story
“My foremost priority has always been, and remains, our eight year old son, Daniel. I chose to remain silent publicly to protect Daniel,” she wrote.
“Now that everything is out in the open, my focus hasn’t changed. I have always been concerned for his safety and for what he is exposed to. Sadly, none of this is surprising to me,” she added.
To say hearing news of your sons' father nearly dying from being stabbed outside a bar after trying to fight a grease truck driver is "not surprising"… that's about as big of a "yikes" as it gets. Not quite the same ringing endorsement for Mark Sanchez's character that we heard from all his teammates and co-workers in the few hours between learning he was in the hospital, and learning how he ended up there.
After being processed in jail yesterday, Mark Sanchez immediately posted the steep $300 bail
NY Post – He was discharged from the hospital Sunday and swiftly transferred to the Marion County Jail for processing. He was released shortly after, since he posted his $300 bail last week.
Sanchez is facing a level 5 felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury charge along with three misdemeanor charges, battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.
Tole, who claims the attack left him “permanently disfigured,” has sued Sanchez for compensatory and punitive damages, including mounting medical costs and legal expenses.
Again, for legal reasons, I should say that Mark Sanchez is set to appear for pretrial on November 5th. So we still only know what we've heard from the police report and the media in general. He'll have his day in court and have his side heard. But if what we've heard so far is remotely true, it's sure not looking good for him.
