A Lakers Fan Is Suing LeBron James Because "Decision 2.0" Made Him Think LeBron Was Retiring And Caused Him To Spend $856 On Tickets To LeBron's "Last Game"
USA Today – In the wake of LeBron James' "Second Decision" that ended up being an advertisement for Hennessy, a lifelong Los Angeles Lakers fan is suing James over the announcement.
In the lawsuit, the fan claimed he was deceived out of hundreds of dollars. He had been eagerly anticipating LeBron James' retirement, believing that the teaser video was just that, rather than an advertisement for his new collaboration with the Hennessy brand.
The fan asserts that James owes him the money he paid for tickets, which he believed would allow him to attend one of James' last games with the Lakers on March 31, 2026, against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The fan also accused James of "fraud, deception and misrepresentation," and is suing him for a total of $865.66 for the two tickets that he purchased.
I've long been a supporter of frivolous lawsuits at the expense of people with more money than God. If you can find a creative way to cut yourself off the tiniest little sliver of someone's $1 billion net worth... an amount of money that would make your life significantly easier, and wouldn't even come close to impacting the defendant's life in the slightest... more power to you. It's not the most "noble" way to make money. But nobody needs a billion dollars. I'll always be in favor of a billionaire's money ending up in the pocket of an average Joe.
But my first thought when I saw story was that this particular lawsuit is so phenomenally stupid that I'm almost in favor of LeBron. I mean what kind of dumbass could have possibly seen the news of LeBron's "Decision 2.0" and have thought for even a second that the announcement would be anything other than an ad.
I was almost pleasantly surprised to learn that "Decision 2.0" was simply an ad for Hennessy. That's better than Amazon. Thank god LeBron isn't launching a cryptocurrency, or getting into world of A.I. At least "Decision 2.0" wasn't LeBron announcing that he's reviving his animated series The LeBron's - available to stream Summer 2026. At least Hennessy is relatively harmless.
But the more I thought about it, we should be holding celebrities & athletes like LeBron James accountable for their bullshit. If you're going to dangle your retirement over our heads and use it to make a quick millions of dollars... if you're going to trick idiots into watching you sit dick-to-dick with some bald guy in an empty gym as you star in a liquor commercial...
If you're going to rely on those idiots to buy your product… then you should be on the hook for the poor decisions those idiots make as a result of your trickery.
The only problem here is that this particular lawsuit filing idiot is merely holding LeBron accountable for $865.66 worth of tickets in small claims court. What are you doing man? Is this your first time suing a rich athlete or something? What about the mental and physical toll that briefly thinking LeBron was about to retire took on you and your family? What about all the time you'll be forced to take off work to cope with the lack of news? You'll probably have to quit your job. Your kids may have long lasting emotional trauma to deal with. There's no telling what those future therapy bills will amount to, especially now that you're unemployed and without health insurance. When you put it all together, that's gotta be worth… idk… at least $10M in damages.
What a dumbass. One of the true dumbasses of our time. Suing LeBron for $865.66, the exact price of the tickets, can only mean this person was genuinely fooled by LeBron's "Decision 2.0" announcement. Which is lightyears worse than being a lazy asshole who files frivolous lawsuits. I'd rather be known as the guy who tried to take the Make-A-Wish Foundation to the cleaners than have the world know I was tricked by "Decision 2.0".
Be better people…
