Holy Shit: Bruce Pearl Reportedly Just Retired From Auburn, On The First Day Of Official Practice, His Son Is Taking Over The Job

Uhhh, okay then. I know this was floating around the rumor world because of a senate run, but this was the last update I saw:

And now he's handing the job off to his son, at least in an interim statement. Also he did this on the first day of practice

I know there are practices throughout the summer and everything, but this is the official start of the season in a way. Now, Auburn, a team off a Final Four run and projected to contend in the SEC again this year now lost their coach who completely changed that program. I can't even lie there. Bruce Pearl turned Auburn into a pretty damn good program and brought them to spots we never thought we'd see Auburn. They were always just kind of there in basketball with a few standout players throughout the years until Pearl took it over.

This isn't NIL or transfer portal related, like basically everyone screams when any coach retires. But, it's continuing the trend of coaches retiring out the blue. We had Tony Bennett retire on October 18 last year. We had Jay Wright retire a few years ago which was seemingly out of nowhere. It's really more just an end of an era though when you consider guys like K, Boeheim and Roy Williams to retire in the last 5 years. This feels like Pearl knew for a little bit, is probably(?) going to run for office and giving his son a chance to take over a team that should be good. Either way, another insane day in the world of college basketball.
