Rock, Flag And Eagle: Former Ryder Cup Captain Lanny Wadkins 'Sometimes Thinks European Teams Are Just A Bunch Of Wusses And Can't Handle The Heat'

[Source] - Speaking to Golf Channel, Wadkins began saying:

“I always find it very interesting that we never say a word about what happens to us when we’re playing in Europe. I know I’ve been on the first tee as far back as 1985, I got introduced and had the entire grandstands boo me.”

“You showed a picture of a shot I’m chipping in at 18 playing with Payne Stewart as my partner in an alternate shot match and there must be five, six people deep behind the green. Everybody’s got their arms folded. Nobody applauding my eagle chip going in. They wanted it to miss. So, I mean, we’ve got the same treatment over there. We just never complained about it.

Sometimes I think the Europeans are just a bunch of wusses and can’t handle the heat.”

Hell yeah, Lanny! That's how you defend the wall before the Ryder Cup even starts. I don't care about giving Europe any extra motivation, all we hear about is how hard it is to play here in America. How the European crowd is sophisticated, classy and all t those other buzz words. Well guess what? I want us to be the assholes. I want it to be hard to win the Ryder Cup in America, it's what this event is all about.

Now, obviously, it's tough for Wadkins to say this when he lost as a captain at home in 1995, in New York, by a point. Just going to get ahead of that there, but Wadkins has every right to run his mouth. He played in 8 Ryder Cups and won arguably the most memorable Ryder Cup of all time - Kiawah. He's arguably the best Ryder Cup player we ever had, going 20-11-3 in his career so if he wants to sometimes think the Europeans are a bunch of wusses, who are we to stop him?

Sidenote - wuss is a great insult. We don't use that enough. It's something that needs to come back because it just hits different.
