Band Wars: Oklahoma's Band Is Not Traveling To Temple This Week, So The St. Joe's Band Is Filling In For Them
The Temple Owls have Oklahoma coming to Philly this weekend. Now typically speaking, Temple isn't a football school. And in turn, Philly isn't much of a college football city. We love the Eagles, half the city cheers for Penn State, a quarter of the city cheers for Notre Dame, and then there's the rest. Rarely does anybody actually care about Temple football, especially considering they've barely been able to piece together a winning season since the Matt Rhule era.
Times are changing for the Owls, though. They spanked UMass to open the season. They spanked Howard last weekend. It's not the most impressive 2-0 resume in the nation, but they're 2-0 with a top 20 team coming to town. It's the biggest game Temple has had in years. They'll probably get their dicks kicked in, but they'll take any break they can get in this one. So when the Oklahoma band couldn't travel to Philly this week, that's the exact type of edge that Temple was looking for. Just something at all to throw the routine off for the Sooners.
But it's the ones closest to you who are in perfect range to stab you right in the back.
I mean what the actual frick are we doing here?
Listen. I get St. Joe's and Temple are rivals when it comes to hoops. But when it comes to college football in Philly, Temple is our only hope. St. Joe's doesn't even have a team. It should be all of Philadelphia vs Oklahoma on Saturday. But instead, you have a bunch of rat bastards coming out of Hawk Hill to play their little hearts out for the Sooners. Quite frankly, it's disgusting. It makes me feel like Villanova is more of a Philly school than St Joes. They'd never stoop this low.
I get it. It's a big game, and these kids never get a chance to play during a football game. All they have during the fall is soccer and field hockey. Maybe they could go play during a cross country meet. But not this game. Maybe if East Carolina or Tulane's band couldn't make the trip to the Linc. But not this game. Gutless move. I guess the hate just runs that deep.
Sidenote: I desperately need a band fight.
