A Few Months After Not Winning a Single Game In The Wimbledon Final, American Amanda Anisimova Is Back In a Grand Slam Final At The US Open

Let's wind things back two months ago as American women's tennis player Amanda Anisimova found herself on the precipice of tennis greatness, a win away from the Wimbledon title. On the other side of the net? Polish robot Iga Swiatek. How would she fair? Well actually the worst possible result. Amanda didn't win a single game. Double bagel, 6-0 6-0.

As you can imagine, it was a crushing moment for her. The match didn't even last a full hour. In the blink of an eye she was essentially obliterated off the court.

As tough as it might have been to speak to the crowd after such an embarrassing moment, she handled it pretty well.
Talk is cheap though. How would she respond? Well, fast forward two months later and Anisimova finds herself in the US Open final. She's playing amazing and has completely discarded what happened at Wimbledon. Iga? Of Amanda took care of her two rounds ago in the quarters, winning the match in straight sets. Back in July she didn't win a game. This time she didn't drop a set.
Really doesn't get more resilient than that. Last night she faced a very in-form and red hot Naomi Osaka, who had just destroyed Coco Gauff and moved past Karolina Muchova in her previous matches. Anisimova dropped the first set, but then completely locked in and over-powered Osaka from there on. She was awesome.
Forgive me if I'm being to positive here, but I'm amazed at the way she's handled the last two months. Only 24 years old too. That kind of loss at Wimbledon is enough to break even the most mentally strong. She let it bounce off her and now has a date with world no. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final tomorrow afternoon. You thought the balls were punished in the Osaka match? Just wait for these two to get going.
It's always Team Anisimova. Tomorrow we lift the champions trophy.

For now? Go turn on Alcaraz-Djokovic and settle into your weekend.
