I Personally Find It Lame That Kirk Ferentz (No Disrespect) Is Going To Pass Woody Hayes For Most Wins In Big Ten History
Let me be very clear: this is no disrespect to Kirk Ferentz. But he should retire before the Iowa vs. Iowa State game tomorrow. In fact, he should probably retroactively forfeit one of his 7 to 3 victories over South Dakota State and then retire before tomorrow's game. Because while I have no beef with Kirk Ferentz, who has coached longer than 59 FBS coaches have even been alive, it's kinda bullshit that he is about to pass the great Woody Hayes as the all-time winningest coach in Big Ten history. And don't get me wrong, there's something to be said about showing up everyday. But the man has more than 2x (124 to 61) than losses as Woody. In fact, here's some more numbers for you:
Woody Hayes: 5 National Titles, 13 Big Ten Championships
Kirk Ferentz: 0 National Titles, 2 Big Ten Championships
And Iowa is going to put their chest out tomorrow like he's the greatest coach in conference history? If they win of course. I mean, it could take him another few games when you consider he's basically 3 and 8'd himself to his current record. I mean, look, all I'm saying is that Kirk Ferentz should get a lifetime participation trophy for coaching so long, but how is the trivia answer in 2052 going to be "Kirk Ferentz" for most wins in Big Ten history? (unless Ryan Day continues to bless us with his time in Columbus). The fact that people are debating if Kirk should be a Hall of Famer or not should tell you all you need to know in this situation. Plus, Woody did it with class!

Remember when Kirk Ferentz was suspended for a recruiting violation? And that's your Big Ten wins leader? Do the right thing, Kirk. Retire, forfeit a game from the past, and let Woody stay at #1.
