'We're Going To Make An Example Out Of Him' - Eric Dickerson Claims The NFL Told Teams Not To Draft Shedeur Sanders, Until The Browns Were Forced To Pick Him
[Source] - “I tell you this much, what I heard from someone that’s in the NFL, that the NFL told [teams] don’t draft him, do not draft him,” Dickerson said on the Roggin and Rodney Show, via Christian Arnold of the New York Post. “We’re going to make an example out of him. And this came from a very good source, a very good source.”
“I won’t say who — somebody called the Cleveland Browns and said, ‘Don’t do that, draft him,’” Dickerson said. “Because they weren’t going to draft him, either. . . .They were forced into drafting him, because somebody made a call to them.”
Oh hell yeah, this is the sort of conspiracy theory that I am ready to dive head first into. It's so dumb, so out there, that it could be true? It's not the first time we heard rumors about Sanders falling because teams didn't want to take him. Then again, we also had this report:
Now, this isn't Mel Kiper weirdly crying and screaming for 3 days during the Draft when any other person was selected. We're talking about a former player. We're talking about a guy who is in the Hall of Fame, a guy who ran for over 2,000 yards in a season. This is someone who you'd assume would 'protect the shield' compared to throwing out an accusation that the NFL told teams not to pick Shedeur Sanders. Instead he went all-in on saying Sanders was basically blackballed from teams until someone made a call to the Browns and forced them to make the pick.
We even got Ochocinco chiming in agreeing with Dickerson
The real question now is who made the call to the Browns? How high up do we need to go to figure out who made the call and said now pick him? This is where we need someone to dig deeper. It has to be Goodell, right? He saw the slide, saw everyone talking about it and then said no mas. 100% chance he figured that Sanders getting drafted, no matter where, was a better look for the league than going undrafted. Not to mention no one knows shit about how he's going to be as a pro. It's all guessing when we talk about futures in the league.
All I know is this is the sort of stuff we need before the season starts. Former players accusing the NFL of telling teams not to draft someone is an A+ conspiracy theory. If it ends up being true it's also one of the more wild stories out there that is why we're addicted to the NFL.
