'I Don't Know Where He Got That From': Arch Manning Says His Grandfather Might Not Have Been Fully Informed When Saying He Would Definitely Stay at Texas Beyond This Year
Do we have some drama brewing in the Manning family?
Just a couple weeks after patriarch Archie Manning said his grandson would certainly stay at Texas for his senior season in 2026, Arch said on Tuesday that may not necessarily be the case. I don't think either statement really means much one way or the other in terms of what will actually end up happening, but it's interesting that Arch would publicly contradict his grandfather when the Mannings are usually as polished and buttoned-up with the media as you're going to find.
In all honesty, though, I don't understand why Arch would want to go to the NFL after this season. Five years ago, absolutely go get paid as soon as possible. But now, Arch can get paid just as much as a top five pick in the NFL Draft to stay in college and develop for another year. A family as smart and knowledgeable about playing quarterback as his will not want him shipped off to the worst team in the NFL having one season as a college starter under his belt when there's really no incentive to do so.
But while I don't think Arch came out with a full-throated rebuttal of Archie's claims, he obviously didn't want to fully endorse the idea he's definitely staying in college when asked about it. That could simply be for negotiating leverage, but it's something to keep an eye on for sure.
The good news is we get to find out next week if any of this even matters. Just let this kid go play football, man. I'm excited to watch him.
