Look Me In The Eyes And Tell Me Why Trevor Rogers And His 1.41 ERA Can't Win The Cy Young Award In The American League

See this guy? That's Trevor Rogers. Since the end of May he's been the best pitcher in the American League. Lot of good chuckers in the AL. Guys like Tarik Skubal, Hunter Brown, Garrett Crochet, Jacob deGrom, they're all good. None of them have been as good as Trevor Rogers has this year. Rogers and his 7.71 ERA in 2024 were mocked by EVERYONE. Folks were saying it was the worst trade in team history, people wanted him DFA'd after 4 games, they swore the Marlins had won the trade. And then Rogers made his debut in late May after an off-season injury and shoved it down every single hater's throat. All he's done since debuting in late May is turn into the best pitcher in the AL. Last night he absolutley abused the Red Sox to the tune of 7 innings, 1 run, 4 hits, 1 walk and 7 Ks on the way to his 6th win of the year. He's disgusting, and has been for some time.

Look at that game long. Worst start he's had was the game that the O's blew after they were up 8-0 in the insane Tampa humidity. He was sweating bullets and he gave up 3 runs in 2 and 1/3rd. Other than that, he's been legit incredible. 10 straight starts giving up less than 3 earned runs in a game. And he's not pitching 5, 5 1/3rd, he's going deep into games. He's been un-hittable all season long after he missed the first 2 months. 6-2 in 12 starts with a 1.41 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and batters hitting just .168 off him in 76 and 1/3rd innings.

Why can't he win the Cy Young? 12 starts isn't a small sample size, it's an extended run. We're at the point where we're no Orioles fan is surprised when he has one of these games now. This is just what we expect from Mr. Rogers. He's made 12 starts and 10 of them have been quality ones, he churns out impresive starts every time out. This is the Rogers the O's thought they were getting last year. My dear friend Jacob said it above, since Rogers debut he has a lower ERA than both Paul Skenes and Skubal. Almost as if he's really fucking good at pitching.

Corbin Burnes has the least amount of starts for a Cy Young winner with 28 and Rogers won't get anywhere near that. But he'll end up with a respectable amount of starts and if he continues to cruise like this, his numbers will look REALLY good. If he's around 18-19 starts and has an ERA around 2? What If it's under 2? I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there but he for sure should be in the conversation for the best pitcher in the AL, because right now he is. Skubal is 11-3 with a 2.42 ERA and 190 Ks, Crochet is 13-5 with a 2.43 ERA with 196 Ks, Hunter has a 2.45 ERA with a 10-5 record and 164 Ks. All great stuff and really dominant years, but since he made his debut Rogers has been better than all of them. @MLBStats pointed out that out of the 173 pitchers with more than 60 innings pitched this season, Rogers ERA of 1.41 is the best in baseball. Not just the AL, all of baseball.

He won't win it, but if he continues to pitch like this and the Orioles end up hovering around .500, he should be mentioned in the convo, top 3 maybe. It's been awesome to watch him shut everyone up this year, he just keeps doing the damn thing after we considered him dead and buried. Almost like us fans truly have no idea what we're talking about when it comes to this stuff. Big time stuff if he can continue this into next year too. Maybe Rogers is the ace the Orioles have been looking for? But all I know is this year he's been the best pitcher in the AL whether you like it or not. Maybe I'm biased, maybe I'm sniffing the Orioles glue and drinking the orange kool aid, or maybe the dude's a just a stud.
