It Just Means More: Hugh Freeze Will Never Apologize For Playing Golf Whenever He Can, Even If Some Auburn Fans Are Losing Their Minds About It
Think everyone knows that summer is made for golf. You try to get out there as much as possible, no matter where you are, get your swings in and feel mostly like shit about your game. That's true for everyone, unless you're a head coach in the SEC. You can't expect SEC football fans to be rational. If you slip up in the slightest or have a down year, they will look for anything and everything to bitch about. That's how you end up with that guy tracking down Freeze's GHIN and figuring out how much he was golfing.
It legit became a story, because again, nothing going on in the sports world. Instead it took to where Auburn's recruiting class fell to with Freeze on the course. It led to Lane Kiffin's twitter account making jokes at Hugh Freeze as much as possible when it came to golf. All things that drive SEC fans batshit nuts.
So now we have media day going on and naturally Freeze had to talk about golf
Honestly, that's a hilarious quote given the circumstances. Look, if he's done at 3pm, he's going to be on the tee box at 4:30. That man wants to get the handicap down and work on his game. I'm not going to make fun of Hugh Freeze here. He loves golf, anyone who loves golf knows that you need to play as much as possible. In fact he needs to lean into it more. Stop trying to argue with fans or be rational, if you land a recruit tweet out a picture of golf somehow. We see it with coaching staffs all across the country, they all have their 'thing' whenever a recruit commits. Be the golf guy.
Freeze is far from the only coach to do something like this, it's just football controls everything, especially in the SEC. You need to win and people will book tee times for you.
