Love Island Season 7 Is Finally Over
All I can say is, FINALLY. Love Island Season 7 was one of the most frustrating seasons to watch, not because it was dramatic, but because it lacked REAL LOVE. The fake “sisterhood” between the girls felt soooo performative, crumbling the second any of these girls turned their back. America’s voting AND the cast voting was a COMPLETE disaster. Time and time again, genuine connections were overlooked in favor of friends or "sisterhood". It became clear that love wasn’t being celebrated, it was being sidelined. Ace was the main person pushing this narrative! He wanted everyone to keep exploring connections and everyone just followed his rules. The few real couples were punished by being kicked off the show (Taylor & Clarke, Hannah & Pepe). It was just a lot of jumping on the bandwagon. The season didn’t feel like a celebration of love, it felt like a competition for clout!!! A disappointing season that prioritized the wrong things at every turn.
ALSO, the viewers played a huge role in ruining Love Island Season 7!!!! The constant switching up, loving someone one day and canceling them the next, made it impossible for islanders to win either way. The way that people switched up on Chelley and Olandria was INSANE. As it does, social media became a toxic stan war where everyone was just ATTACKING the islanders that they didn't like. The hate was relentless, and it created this toxic viewership where everyone was making things up and pointing out every little detail. It’s a reality dating show!!!! It's supposed to be unserious and fun. People forgot these are real people in an unnatural, high-pressure situation. Your whole life is put on display! These stans on Twitter and Tiktok have no room for growth or nuance. There was no supporting the vulnerability and real moments, viewers demanded drama and bullying. I even had a play in that too, I wanted Jeremiah and Iris to couple up just for the drama. I got lost in the drama aspect and that wasn't right. The obsession with drama and judgment over empathy ruined what the show is supposed to be about: love, connection, and fun. You know it is bad when Love Island had to put out TWO anti-bullying graphics.
Honestly, I just don't care to recap each date individually. The only one I'll dive into is Huda and Chris just because of the pure absurdity of that date. Nic & Olandria had a cute date, and they talked about trying to make it work on the outside. I will be SHOCKED if that happens. Iris & Pepe were very sweet. Their love language is TOTALLY physical touch because they are just constantly on top of each other. I hope that they work on the outside, and I was SHOCKED that they came in fourth. You could tell on their faces that they couldn't believe that Huda & Chris "beat them". I think Huda had a very intense and loyal stan group and that is how she made it so far.
Huda and Chris's date was one for the record books. Being that they were on the rocks for days before this, I was not shocked that this date went south quick. These two were mid breakup and a singer comes out and starts performing "Moon River". Talk about a shit show. I think Huda has a lot of maturing to do, don't get me wrong, but Chris does as well. He is very quick to dismiss her, and act like he is always right. Huda does that too! She does not take constructive criticism well so when Chris is trying to explain his feelings, she just shuts him down. I will say though, I think Chris pulled a classic boy move and had Huda do the breakup so that he wouldn't look like the bad guy. At the end, Chris refusing to carry Huda through the water was just the cherry on top. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first ever breakup on the finale of Love Island. This is when couples are supposed to be making it official, or becoming exclusive. The irony of there being a breakup on the Love Island finale just sums up the show completely.
And finally, congrats to Amaya and Bryan. If anyone had to win, I am glad that it is them. I was really happy when Bryan asked Amaya to make things exclusive on their date. I was a little skeptical of Bryan but I do think that he has slowly proven himself to be genuine. I just love the way that he is constantly reassuring her and telling her that he loves every part of her. Bryan understands Amaya's humor and personality, and he never tries to dull her sparkle. I really like how he reiterated that they were two misunderstood people that understood each other. How sweet!! I did tear up at their speeches for each other. Amaya was really put through the ringer in the beginning of the show. Ace, Austin, AND Zak all owe her a huge apology and we better see that during the reunion. I am rooting for Amaya and Bryan to last outside the villa.
GOOOODNIGHT and GOOOOODBYE to Love Island season 7. I hope season 8 gets a massive improvement. And Love Island Games in September!
