Dumping Them Out: Ranking 4/20 Birthdays
Welcome back to a very special 4/20 Easter episode of Dumping Them Out. To celebrate, here's an impromptu speed ranking of celebrities, athletes and world leaders who are celebrating birthday's today. Both humously, and post.
1. Don Mattingly
- I was surprised to learn Don Mattingly didn't make the Hall of Fame, despite winning MVP in 1985. Then I wondered to myself, "How many MLB MVP's didn't make the Hall of Fame? So I looked it up. Turns out like half of them haven't made it. If you win the MLB MVP, it borderline diminishes your chances of being elected into Cooperstown. MLB does give out both AL & NL MVP, so the list seems a little more jarring than it really is when you first see how many non-HOF MVP's there are. The steroid era makes it look even crazier. But even from 1960-1989, only 54% of MVP's have made the Hall of Fame. I thought that seemed low.
Also, not letting steroid guys into the Hall of Fame is stupid. For some reason, people want to draw a hard line between steroid users and non-steroid users. If you use steroids at all, that means you're out. Idk why they can't just use common sense. Guys like Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa, don't let them in. But guys like Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez.. it's crazy for them to not have a plaque. You should be able to walk down the plaque room in Cooperstown and get a full scope of the story of baseball. Not having Bonds and A-Rod as part of that room is ridiculous.
I'm a believer that Hall of Fames should tell "the story of the sport". Which is kinda why I don't even think it's that crazy for Colorado to retire Shedeur Sanders number. Well… let me back track a second. It is undeniably a bit crazy. It's especially crazy considering the numbers that Colorado doesn't have retired. Kordell Stewart isn't retired. Nobody from the Colorado's 1990 National Championship team is retired. The only numbers Colorado had retired before Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders are:
#24 Byron White - QB/HB from 1936-1937
#67 Joe Romig - OG from 1959-1961
#11 Bobby Anderson - RB from 1967-1969
#19 Rashaan Salaam - RB from 1993-1994 (Heisman Winner)
A lot of people are giving Colorado shit for the timing of their most recent rsey retirements. But with the exception of Rashaan Salaam, the other 3 people to have their numbers retired had them retired the year after they left Colorado. So there's at least some precedent form Colorado doing immediate number retirements.
Also… I know Colorado with Shedeur Sanders wasn't a top 10 team or anything. But that's obviously not Shedeur's fault. If you look at what Shedeur Sanders did stats-wise compared to any other Colorado quarterback in the history of the school, nobody comes remotely close to what Shedeur did on a per season basis.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't have retired Shedeur's number. But it's not as crazy as people are making it out to be. At the end of the day, Colorado just retired the number of the best QB in the history of their school. I'm sure there's been crazier number retirements. On top of that, the Shedeur Sanders/Travis Hunter era at Colorado was a MASSIVE part of the story of college football for two years. They were a huge fucking deal whether you liked it or not. I still wouldn't have done it. But I don't think it's nearly as ridiculous as people want to make it out to be.

2. Carmen Electra
Pretty hot. Big time early life childhood crush for anyone born in the late 80's early 90's.
3. Luther Vandross
The only thing I know Luther Vandross from is the Kanye West song Slow Jamz (feat. Jamie Foxx).
"She said she want some Marvin Gaye, some Luther Vandross. A little Anita will definitely set this part off right"
I'm assuming if Jamie Foxx dropped his name in Slow Jamz, then he was probably pretty legit at some point.
4. George Takai
For some reason he became a meme like 10 years ago? Idk I never watched Star Trek. My gut tells me I don't really like him.
5. Napoleon Bonaparte III
Rankings over. Here's a video that pissed me off today.
Nothing against the cartwheeling batter. She did what she had to do. But what the hell are t-ball coaches doing nowadays? I'm not one to get high and mighty about the way things are done now versus how things used to be. But they're not even attempting to coach their players on how to play defense. I get that they're young. Maybe they're younger than I even realize. No coach is even trying to make those kids stand in a position. Even if you can't stop your whole team from converging on the ball after it's hit (which even at that age you should be able to), at least put in the effort to like your kids up in a way that halfway resembles a baseball defense. At bare minimum, teach your first baseman to cover first. Honestly, the cartwheeler seems like the only one who knows what sport she's playing. I'm not trying to shit on the kids, but these coaches are completely phoning it in. I promise you when I was playing T-ball, my dad and the rest of my coaches never would have let this shit happen.
