Orioles Hall Of Fame Pitcher And Broadcaster Jim Palmer Says That He's Never Eaten A Single Chicken Wing In His Entire Life
The Orioles lost yet another game last night but that doesn't mean the entire game was a complete wash. Naturally, the broadcast booth was shining at Camden Yards, always is when Kevin Brown and Jim Palmer call a game together. If there is one thing you can count on in your life it's that when the Orioles are getting the piss kicked out of them, you can always count on Kevin and Jim to give you some grade A material.
Last night was no different as Jim Palmer, Hall of Fame pitcher, announced that he has NEVER eaten a single chicken wing. Not once has an Old Bay wing been tasted by the man they call "Cakes". The man is 79 years old and has never had a wing? That's quite an amazing feat if you ask me. Palmer is known for taking great care of his body and treating it like a temple, except for the pancakes he used to eat before every start. But since he's known as a pretty healthy guy I'm willing to bet there are some other foods he hasn't dare tried yet, it's not just the wings.
I do love how Kevin is laughing at him while asking him "what do you mean you've never had a wing?", like he was waiting for the punchline or something. He was in disbelief listening to Palmer talk about how he's avoided trying a wing for 79 years. What's even crazier is Palmer admitting that he took the skin or the "crust" off of his fried chicken and ate just the meat. The skin is the best part! It's not even close either, if you can choose to eat one part of the fried chicken it's for sure the skin.
It's a shame, I bet Palmer would love a good Old Bay Buffalo wing too. He showed 0 interest in ever even thinking about trying a wing as well, just no desire at all from Cakes. Baltimore's got some pretty good wing spots, but I know that Palmer loves his Little Italy trips and I don't think many of those places have wings on the menu. You'd think somewhere along the way he'd be at a sports bar or something and his buddies would have had a basket of milds sitting right there and he'd pick one up and try it there. I'm hosting an event with him in a few months and you can bet your bottom dollar I'm going to do my best to persuade him to eat a chicken wing, we'll raise money for a charity or something but I'll make it happen. He truly is a gem and Kevin always seems to find a way to make everyone crack up and laugh during an embarrassing L from the Orioles. Last place team, first place broadcast booth, that's what we've got going on in Baltimore right now. At least we get these great stories and fun facts when you're getting dragged to death on the field.
