Rory vs Bryson Part 2 - Sunday At The Masters Is Setting Up To Be An All-Time Day
We know the history. I don't know how you can't, but somehow if you don't here you go:
That was Pinehurst, an elite course, one of the most famous in the country and golf world. But now we're talking Sunday at the Masters with these two in the final pairing. Here's the leaderboard:
Me personally? I would have loved to see Lowry and Conners in the final group, but that's just a guy with a couple futures. From a golf standpoint, this is awesome. There's no other way to say it. We saw their finish at Pinehurst, but that was in two different pairs. You have Rory trying to complete the grand slam with the lead and avoid the 'Rory chokes' lines that everyone has ready. Bryson trying to chase him down again and solidify himself as an elite major player (also solidify himself as a lock for the Ryder Cup, should be on regardless, but you get the point). Even with the lead you have Conners, Reed, Aberg and Scottie all lurking. Nick Faldo came back from 6 down 29 years ago, so, you never know.
How we got here is rather simple. Rory put together one of the best starts to a major round you'll ever see
On 15 he drew comparisons to Tiger
He shot a -6, took that 4 stroke lead and looked in cruise control. It was impressive, mostly because I assumed the wheels were falling off when he missed putts on 8, 10 and 13. He never did though. Meanwhile you had Rose struggling, Lowry up and down, Conners doing the same and the leaderboard grew.
On 18 though Bryson drilled this
That's how you end up with this final pairing. It's probably the storyline everyone wanted to see the most, maybe have Scottie here instead. But you get the rematch from the US Open. You have the Rory choke/grand slam storyline. You have guys lurking and seeing who can make a run. Throw in the LIV vs PGA thing and it adds. Hell, Rory vs Bryson as a mini Ryder Cup, I don't care.
All I know is Sunday at the Masters is going to be goddamn awesome and I can't wait.
