'It's Immortality In Golf' - Jim Nantz Talking About What Winning The Green Jacket Means To People Should Have Everyone Fired Up For The Masters
Ah, fuck it, we're going for a second Masters blog today. I can't do the transfer portal, there's no argument about the torpedo bats (besides the Yankees are the biggest cheating franchise in the history of sports. Fuck Jeffrey Maier.) so we're looking forward to next week. I love all the tradition of Augusta and the Masters. I love nerding out when it comes to this sort of stuff, it's something so unique that we only get here. Love how the entire city embraces the tradition:
The crazy part? I think I believe him. I know there's a ton of money involved, but all of golf has a ton of money involved. It's not like winning the Masters changes your life from a financial standpoint compared to other events out there. Hell, the Memorial last year had a larger payout to first place by about 800k compared to The Masters. But you know what the difference is? I remember the name Danny Willett for winning The Masters. I can't tell you who won a bunch of the Memorial's outside of Cantlay's run there. Not saying $3 million is something I'd pass up, but the Masters and maybe The Open feel like the only tournaments where you can win and just truly feel like you're part of history.
I can't wait for next week. I'm not going to rush the Final Four (unless Duke wins, then it's null and void), but there's something about The Masters. The weather feels like it starts to turn, everyone gets locked into golf, it's a close to perfect event. This is the only event where it's not insane to say something like this. There are few events in all of sports where one win puts you in immortality. The Masters is for sure one of them.
