All Four Upcoming Beatles Biopics Will Release In April 2028 As "The First Binge-able Theatrical Experience"
Last night at CinemaCon (an event for movie studios to host panels/make announcements), Sam Mendes revealed that his four upcoming interconnected Beatles biopics will all release in April 2028 as "the first binge-able theatrical experience” - and although I'm not entirely sure what that means, I love it!
Seriously though, what do we think "the first binge-able theatrical experience” means? Will four movies all separately release on the same day? Are we gonna have to buy tickets to four different movies? Are they putting out a Beatles Marathon type deal where you're gonna pay for one movie and then sit there for six to eight hours and watch four movies? Or maybe both of those options?! I don't know!
I'll be there for all four movies on opening day regardless, just as I was there for all eight hours of the 'Get Back' documentary - but I have no idea how an approach like this will land with the general public. I could see it either flopping completely, or this young cast getting a new generation into the Fab Four like Timothee Chalamet/Bob Dylan and this being the next Barbenheimer or something. And speaking of the cast, who were locked in/confirmed last night as well - I'd mentioned in the past that I would've preferred a group of unknown actors to play The Beatles, but with this release plan I get that they're gonna need to make a "cinematic event" of it, and this fan-favorite cast will certainly boost the potential for that. I like all four actors as well!
You know what this really reminds me of, though? When Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss of KISS all released solo albums on the same day in 1978. Remember that? Sure, they mostly sucked - but Ace's was pretty great and gave us his 'New York Groove' cover that still slaps to this day!
Plus, the album covers were nothing short of iconic....
….but I digress.
One more thing: how about Joseph Quinn doing this right after doing a Beatles inspired Fantastic 4?
He's gonna get sick of that Ed Sullivan Show set!
