The Yankees Set a Franchise Record With NINE Homers And Now Everyone Is Crying About The Perfectly Legal Bats They Used
The Yankees woke up today feeling the abnormally warm weather in NYC and decided to break the bats out. Their unfortunate victim was an old friend in Nestor Cortes Jr. It was not a fun time for Nestor, whose last appearance came giving up a walk off homer to Freddie Freeman in Game 1 of the World Series. The Yankees decided to enact some revenge on the lefty. Three pitches, three homers.
Witnessing this in person was truly unbelievable. I was filming a Gametime ad just as Goldy connected.
Couldn't catch my breath for Belly or Judge's. Wells added one a few batters later to top off a four homer first inning.
And then an inning later Volpe blew this shit open.
Judge's turn came up once more and he detonated for a grand slam. The entire stadium just knew he was about to let one fly.
Then Jazz got in the mix
But Judge wasn't done…
Oswald Peraza didn't even start the game but decided to join the party.
In total the Yankees smashed NINE homers in the game, setting a franchise record and falling just one short of the all-time MLB team record for a single game. Madness. A concoction of terrible pitching and warm weather resulted in nukes being hit all over the damn place. Sorry not sorry Nestor, you did lose us a World Series game, even if you shouldn't have been in the game in the first place. Judge missed a 4th homer by a few feet later on and didn't bother to try for another afterwards when position player Jake Bauers came in to end the fight. If he wanted to he would have had 4 which is nuts to say. What a fucking day at the ol' ball park.
Lots of people online (stupid Mets/Red Sox fans) are concerned about the Yankees bat and how they've changed the game. Sorry we're just really smart and play by the rules. Go Lenny Go.
Plouffe explained it further here how this is all perfectly legal and likely being done by more than just the Yankees.
Good on the Yankees for being on top of this. I'm guessing most teams are already doing this or will begin to after the 20 run outburst. Everyone except the Pirates, Marlins, Rockies, and Angels that is. Kinda crazy baseball has been around for so long and it took til now to maximize the legal limits of the bat and tinker with certain players' tendancies. If it results in the Yankees scoring 20 runs a game I'll have zero objections.
2-0, 24 runs scored. great start.
P.S. The defense simply has to be better. They're lucky they had the offensive day at the plate they did because the five errors was a joke. Never play Pablo Reyes again.
