We're Finally Getting A Two Pitino Big East - Xavier Comes Out Of Nowhere And Reportedly Hires Richard Pitino As Its Next Head Coach

Hell yes! This is why coaching searches will never stop being entertaining to me. All day we heard how it could be Richard Pitino to Villanova, which only grew when Donovan Dent hit the transfer portal. All the signs were there with Kevin Willard talking about Maryland and in the mix, no one really knows what's going on there. Then we had Chris Mack announce he's staying at Charleston:

About 35 minutes later Rothstein comes out and says Xavier is hiring Richard Pitino. More Pitino, more Italian, more Big East. It's what the league was built on - Italians, basketball and entertaining coaches. The promos are already sold for Xavier/St. John's next year. They have to open the season against each other when Big East play starts. It's a no-brainer at this point. Plus, Rico finally has his answer for the successor at St. John's in 5 years.

I love the hire. Richard Pitino is only 42 years old, he can coach. I know people will point at Minnesota and only making a couple Tournaments there. Look, Minnesota might be the worst power job in the country. It's awful. The fact he won a Tournament game there is a minor miracle. Love it. Sneaky though, Cintas Center is a great place to watch a game. If you haven't been yet, catch a game there, not a bad seat in the house.

All eyes go to Nova now.
