The Jordan Montgomery-Arizona Diamondbacks Marriage Will Go Down As One Of Baseball's Recent Full-Blown Disasters As The Lefty Now Needs Tommy John Surgery

The Jordan Montgomery Arizona Diamondbacks era has been one to forget. Coming over in late March of 2024 after Scott Boras tried to wait out teams and drive up his price, Monty started last year way behind. The end result was a disaster. He never got going and struggled to maintain any sort of consistency. Eventually he was removed from the rotation and pitched out of the pen in the 2nd half of the year. Once the season ended, Snakes owner Ken Kendrick admitted the Montgomery contract was a terrible decision and the worst the team made all year. This was all while Montgomery had a vesting option with the club for the 2025 season which was triggered.

All offseason the team tried to trade the lefty to anyone who wanted him.

Then today, just days before Opening Day we get word that he was getting hugs in the dugout, which is usually a tell-tale sign you've been traded.

Record scratch

What a wild turn of events. Really sad for Montgomery obviously as just a few years ago he was pitching great in the postseason which ended up resulting in a World Series title for the Rangers. His 2023 season between St. Louis and Texas had him set up for a monster free agent payday. Instead Scott Boras, his agent at the time, waited out the market and ended up having to settle for his Diamondbacks short term deal. The ripple effect of starting so late that season has led to this nightmare series of events. Boras was fired right after the Diamondbacks deal came to fruition.

At least contracts are guaranteed in baseball and he'll get the $25M owed to him from Arizona, but what a nose dive of luck. Would be fitting if the Diamondbacks didn't insure his contract and end up not getting any of that money back. Would love to hear the owner's thoughts now.
