Not Bad For A Sport Idiots Keep Declaring As Dead: This NCAA Tournament Is Setting Viewership Records We Haven't Seen In 32 Years
Weird, I don't know how this could happen considering all I've heard is the sport is dead. I mean no Cinderella means no one would ever watch such a thing.
Basically some form of this statement has been said over and over again. Everything is killing the sport, again something that has been said since one-and-done, G League Ignite, Overtime Elite, anything else. Well, people still love the NCAA Tournament. It's almost like the big names draw people in. I say it all the time, people want to see upsets in round 1 and then the big names advance. You want the best possible games for the second weekend, especially when you get to the standalone games. The last thing you want is a blowout.
Look at the numbers. The games with the biggest numbers? Kentucky, Duke, Illinois, Baylor, Kansas, Arkansas. You're looking at recent national champions, the 2 biggest brands in the sport, Calipari and Illinois. That says it all. It's games in the right time slots too, sure, that's a part, but numbers are growing this tournament. It's growing at the same time people want to scream the sport is dead. Fact is as long as a school name is on that jersey, fans are going to watch. People have feelings towards the big teams, people know the big name teams, people love brackets and everything else.
I'll say it again. I want the transfer portal to change. I want it to be one free transfer then back to normal rules with the exception of if your coach leaves you get to leave for free. Seems like the fair plan for everyone involved. It also eliminates dumb shit like this
Weird to not point out they ran it back last year and the minor detail that Dusty May left FAU the same time these guys did. Just a little fact that should probably be pointed out. At the same time the transfer portal shouldn't be open right now. Push it back until after the Final Four so it makes sense.
But the point stands. You're an idiot if you keep screaming the sport is dead. People are watching, people will always watch.
