The Bulls Are Proving "The Ewing Theory" True. They Won Again And Are Somehow Flying Towards The Playoffs.

This is a public service announcement. Firstly...Chicago has an NBA team. It does feel like we forget about that sometimes and especially this year because the games aren't on TV. Secondly, post-Lavine Bulls are fun. All the Bulls had to do to become a little bit interesting was trade anyone who had name recognition. Oh you've been to an All-Star game? Here's a one-way ticket. The Bulls are living proof that the Ewing Theory is real

From Google AI:

The "Ewing Theory" posits that teams, particularly those led by a star athlete who receives significant media attention but doesn't lead to substantial success, often perform better after the star's departure, either through injury, trade, or otherwise.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

  • Origin and Popularization:The theory, popularized by former ESPN columnist Bill Simmons, was initially observed by Dave Cirilli, who noticed that Patrick Ewing's teams, both at Georgetown and with the New York Knicks, seemed to play better when Ewing was injured or missing extended stretches.

Now that the Bulls are free of Lavine it feels like they have new life. Matas and Coby White run the team. Giddey can be on the ball more. They share the ball. They're active on the glass. They play hard. It's refreshing to see.

The best thing for the future of the Bulls would probably be to miss the playoffs and get a high draft pick. That is CLEARLY not going to happen since they're on fire and 7 games clear of Toronto so fuck it. I am going to enjoy the ride. I am not the biggest NBA fan, clearly, but I want to enjoy one team have some semblance of success. I'll watch the stretch run. I'll root for them in the play-in. When it's over I will go back to being miserable. I just need something to care about between now and I don't know...Bears season? The Bulls are the only option in town at the moment and I like how they're playing.
