Kyle Neptune Is Finally Fired By Villanova, Had To Happen To Save The Program From Being Completely Irrelevant

There's no other way to put it, this had to happen. If you kept Kyle Neptune as head coach you fall into a category or pointless, irrelevant, whatever you want to say here. He was that bad as a head coach. I know, Jay Wright and Nova wanted to keep it in the family when Wright retired and Neptune had a decent year by Fordham standards. But this is exactly why you don't do that. You hire the best person for the job, especially at a place like Nova. Now you got Pitino in the Big East, you got Hurley with 2 titles, Creighton and Marquette have been more consistent.

It's somewhat insane he lasted this long. I know this year was the make or break year, but in the world of the transfer portal and NIL, you can't miss a tournament for 3 years in a row at Nova. You can't do that after what Jay Wright left you. This is one of the better jobs in the country, they have all the resources you need. That's why there's two fairly obvious candidates for me if I'm Nova.

1. The second coming

Pitino was fine at one of the, if not the, worst power job in the country in Minnesota. He has New Mexico rolling. He knows the Big East. I'd take a shot at him. Plus, I want the content of him vs his dad at the Garden in the Big East Tournament.

2. Mark Byington from Vandy. Look at what he did in year 1 in the best conference in America. He had Vandy ranked, he has Vandy in the NCAA Tournament. If you can do it there, you can do it at Villanova. It's that simple.

Other guys that have been thrown out there are like Porter Moser, Ben McCollum, Darian DeVries, guys like that all make sense. You're going to be in a race with Iowa and Indiana to hire the two Drake guys though. That's another reason you make the move right now. You can't get stuck behind in the search or in the transfer portal. Now it's time to save the program that Rollie and Jay built.
