Devastating: Tiger Woods Announces He Ruptured His Achilles While Ramping Up Training And Practice, Had Surgery Today
NOOOOOOOOO. This is absolutely devastating and a horrific injury, trust me. I say this as a man who tore his Achilles no less than 9 months ago. It sucks, everything about it sucks. You never feel normal, still have a hitch in my walk and basically terrified any time I'm not taking a normal step. I'm just a blogger. Throw in all the other injuries Tiger had over his career and I assume it's all amplified. Obviously we're only a few weeks away from The Masters. I don't know man, there's just something about seeing Tiger at Augusta that's right. It's all I know as a 38-year old. He's missed the event just 4 times since 1995, it's a staple at this point. That's obviously not happening here.
Now I want to speak as a very, very amateur and average golfer. I went to Ireland mere days after tearing my Achilles (didn't have to have surgery, built different). I never was more confident off the tee. Distance wasn't there, but think I was roughly 95% on hitting fairways. If I can do such a thing and play Old Head, Dooks, Waterville, Kilarney and Tralee in the 90s, Tiger can still win a major this year. Let the man take a cart and play in a boot. Hell, we saw him win a US Open with a massive injury
I'm not dumb. We all know that Tiger's at the end of his career. But it still sucks. There's nothing worse than the guys you grew up watching are no longer playing. It becomes weird in a way. That's how I feel about all of this. So get the scooter ready, Tiger, get the off road one so your knee doesn't hurt. Get compression sock and make the recovery. 2026 Masters is going to be in the same breath as 2019.
