I Think Sam Darnold Will Be A Bust in Seattle

The NFL Free Agency World has gone BANANAS in the last 48 hours.

One of the biggest moves is the Seahawks moving on from Geno Smith to Sam Darnold as starting QB. (The Seahawks traded Geno to the Raiders)

Darnold was unbelievable in Minnesota last year for 17 weeks before melting down in losses to Detroit on Sunday Night Football in Week 18 and in the NFL Wild Card to the LA Rams.

After a 14-3 season, the Vikings were in a weird spot with Darnold after drafting Michigan QB JJ McCarthy with the 11th overall pick in the 2024 Draft. (McCarthy missed his rookie season with a knee injury)

With McCarthy on a cheaper rookie contract, the Vikings made the prudent financial decision to move on from Darnold. Minnesota believes that Kevin O'Connell can coach up QBs in his system throwing to star wideouts Justin Jefferson & Jordan Addison.

After watching Kirk Cousins & Sam Darnold succeed there, I am inclined to believe the Vikings.

After Darnold's collapse the final 2 games, the other big question was how much $$$ would he get paid in the offseason?

That turned out pretty good for Sam as he signed a 3 year deal worth over 100 Million dollars in Seattle. But can he succeed there?!?!?

Darnold is leaving the friendly indoor confines of Minnesota to play outdoors in the rain in Seattle. The Seahawks lost star WR DK Metcalf to the Steelers too.

Seattle hired former Saints OC Klint Kubiak to run the offense who I do like some. But this situation seems like it is headed for a bad ending.

While Seattle does have an emerging star in WR Jaxson Smith-Njigba, the talent level on this offense is way behind Minnesota and there is a pretty big downgrade from wizard play caller Kevin O'Connell to Klint Kubiak.

Darnold proved tons of haters wrong last year & will have to do it again in Seattle. The odds are stacked against him and I am going to have to see him succeed again to believe it.

But at least Sam got that bag......
