Good Plan: John Calipari, Whose Team Is Flirting With The Bubble, Openly Admits He Doesn't Care If Arkansas Wins At The SEC Tournament
This isn't the first time Calipari has said something like this, far from it. However, it's the first time his team is flirting with the bubble and he starts to admit the SEC Tournament doesn't matter. He's right in one sense. The title game doesn't matter. It has no impact on seeds, we've seen that play out numerous times. But if Arkansas loses to South Carolina? Buddy, be ready to sweat out a trip to beautiful Dayton, Ohio.
We somehow live in a world where John Calipari is getting credit for being on the bubble. Reminder for everyone screaming 'best coaching job I've ever seen out of John Calipari' this was a preseason top-20 team. He talked about winning titles. They are projected as one of the last 10 seeds right now. I know Boogie Fland got hurt, every team is dealing with injuries. This is sill a very underwhelming year for Arkansas and anyone argues opposite is just wrong. It took 20 games for them to realize how Johnell Davis plays. In contrast I'd rather hear this:
And look, Cal can talk about the NCAA Tournament being the one that matters. That played when he made 4 Final Fours in his first 6 years and won a title. When you lose to Oakland, St. Peter's and don't make a Sweet 16 since 2019 it doesn't really hit like normal. Also helps you won it so many times when the league was whatever and we had guys like John Wall, Brandon Knight, Tyler Ulis, the entire platoon of 2014-15, etc. It wasn't the laid back the tournament doesn't matter. It was being better than everyone. If you want to say it doesn't matter, wait until you make sure you beat South Carolina.
