It's A Good Thing The Jets Signed Justin Fields

It feels strange not to be sarcastic about the New York Jets, but I am actually excited about Justin Fields. I'm not a delusional crazy person. The Jets are not going to be good next year. They won't sniff the Bills so the division is out of the question. There are only three wild card spots and assuming the division leaders don't change, I know the Bengals, Steelers (with whoever they get at QB), Chargers, Broncos among others are better than the Jets.

It's hardly breaking news but the Jets aren't making the playoffs this year. But with Justin Fields, they will at least be fun to watch.

First off, Fields is a better passing QB than he gets credit for. His QB rating has gone up each of the four years that he's been in the NFL. He's just turned 26 years old. That's not a combination that is available in free agency every year.

The other reason I love this movie is that it makes the Jets more exciting on the field. While they've been a bizarre dumpster fire off the field, watching this team Sundays at 1 has been like watching paint dry. Justin Fields does crazy shit on the field. He gives this offense some life. It's got to be better than watching Aaron Rodgers get sacked or Zach Wilson getting picked off.

I have to imagine this also makes Garrett Wilson excited. He gets reunited with Fields and it's not like he's had great guys throwing to him.

Justin Fields has been pretty good when he's had a decent WR to throw to.

Allow me to dream for a second. Let's imagine Fields flourishes under Aaron Glenn and being with the Jets. What if he ends up being really good? The Jets could either re-sign him or use the franchise tag. I'd so much rather have a 26 year old under club control than signing some old guy like Russell Wilson or Kirk Cousins.

The Jets have lost more than just Aaron Rodgers this off-season. Davante Adams, Haason Reddick, DJ Reed and Morgan Moses have all signed elsewhere already. With dead money on the cap, the Jets are not going to be able to replace all of these guys with equal talent. This is going to be another tough season. It might as well be entertaining.
