REVIEW: 'Black Bag' Is The Sexiest Spy Thriller To Come Out In A Long Time

When intelligence agent Kathryn Woodhouse is suspected of betraying the nation, her husband - also a legendary agent - faces the ultimate test of whether to be loyal to his marriage, or his country.

There are three factors to this movie that made me really excited going into it.

1. Steven Soderbergh. There aren't many people better at directing winding crime stories than him.

2. A David Koepp screenplay.

3. Michael Fassbender. The Fass man is an incredible actor who had been on a pretty bleak streak of movies post- 'Jobs'.

I'm happy to report that all three factors combined to make a pretty great movie. As always, I'll break it down into a pro and con list for you.

PROS:

- The cast is stellar. Fassbender really gets to flex his chops in this one and I'd pay to watch 100 more movies where he is paired with Cate Blanchett. All the supporting cast is great as well and Regé-Jean Page kind of sold me on him being a potential Bond?

- Like you can expect from Soderbergh, this sucker is TIGHT. Really well directed with very few lulls. The Koepp script is also awesome. Sexy but also very funny without having to try too hard.

- The story is fun as hell. It's basically a whodunnit in the spy world of MI6 that keeps you guessing until the very end.

- Everything on the technical end is fantastic. Cool sets, great camera work, music, costumes etc.

CONS:

- There are some points early in the movie where I wish I had some subtitles. Regional English accents can be a little hard to decipher sometimes. When you add spy-industry jargon to the equation, it only gets harder.

Overall, I really liked it. The only warning I'd give to anyone interested is that this is not an action-thriller. It's all about solving the mystery.
