March's First Cinderella: Delaware Entered The CAA Tournament Losing 11 Of Its Last 12, Ranked 260th In The Country And Is Now 1 Win From The NCAA Tournament
We're looking at our first true Cinderella run of March here. Delaware is the 12 seed in the CAA Tournament. They entered the event losing 11 of 12, ranked 260th in the country. None of that matters because we're looking at the beauty of March. Beat Stony Brook by 4 and then smoke Campbell and William and Mary before controlling the game against No. 1 Towson. Now we're one win away from seeing Delaware make the NCAA Tournament.
We're about to enter the major conference Tournament time of Championship Week. So far it's been all better seeds advancing outside of the SoCon where the title game was a 5 vs 6. Wofford isn't a regular 6 seed though since the SoCon is always bunched up. The CAA though, you have Delaware trying to win 5 games in 5 days. It's by far the biggest Cinderella run we've had so far and we get something like this usually once a year or so. Last year it was NC State who dominated the Cinderella run from the ACC Tournament to the Final Four. Now you want some analytical look and SQ broke it out here
But the fact is those are predictive scores. In March none of that shit matters, just who wins and loses. That's how Delaware got here. They are shooting the shit out of the ball, playing free and has a guy in John Camden who went for 36 against William and Mary. They can get hot and win tonight too. Why does it matter outside of the auto bid? It changes who is playing in Dayton or the 16 seeds.
Tonight at 7pm we find out if they go 5-for-5. We've seen teams do it before. I think I'm all in on the Blue Hens though. Typically you want the best team from these 1-bid leagues to make it, but give me some anarchy. Delaware is providing that.
