The New Era: Dan Hurley Went On 60 Minutes Started Talking About How '50% Of His Roster Is At Least Considering Going Into The Portal'
I'd put more clips in but Twitter is broken, again. So we get Instagram and the one clip I keep seeing over and over again. Dan Hurley talking about 50% of his roster (or more) is considering going in the portal. I don't know man, I get it but I'm also skeptical. You're not a mid-major, you're not a team who has to worry about losing all these guys who were underrecruited. I'm sure a handful of people are considering going into the portal because it makes sense if you're player. It's a dumb rule right now, but you can't argue for a player to figure out what sort of money they can get isn't insane. Still think the obvious rule change is one free transfer then go back to the sit out a year transfer, unless your coach leaves. That seems to be the most fair across the board.
I don't even think Hurley is necessarily complaining here either. He just seems to be saying what he's seeing or experiencing. Also tough for Hurley to complain when he won titles with some transfers playing a major role and currently has important pieces thanks to a transfer. I also think this is a Hurley move. He's doing this to create a storyline that people are doubting UConn. He's doing this to create something he can flip on the team and get them fired up. I refuse to believe Hurley does anything besides finding a spinzone to use to his advantage, he even talks about how he uses his sense of failure now:
Once again, we need to blame the NCAA here. The answer was always obvious, they just refuse to use common sense. NIL and the transfer portal could have been solved years ago. Instead they waited too long and went to the court system and all this.
