The Dumbest Rule In College Sports Strikes Again - St. Thomas Is Playing For A Conference Title Tonight, Not Allowed To Play In The NCAA Tournament

We live in a world where college sports has basically no rules. You can pay players, you can transfer, coaches can do whatever they want, programs leave conferences to create superconferences that make no sense. However, there is still one rule. One of the dumbest rules out there. The transition rule. If a team moves from Division II to Division I, they are ineligible for the NCAA Tournament for a few years.

I say all that because now what should be an awesome game, means nothing.

I like Omaha, love the trash can bit, but this is about making games matter. The whole reason for the transition period rule is to stop teams from joining Division I. Working out well since there's 364 teams. Maybe we just stop letting teams move up to Division I. But if they do and they are good enough to win the conference, let the boys play. It's that simple. St. Thomas is good enough to play in the NCAA Tournament. Not to mention if they can't play in the NCAA tournament, why even let them play in the conference tournament? This creates mayhem. This creates people getting pissed off.

So as much as I love Omaha and everything, tonight we are all Tommies. We need everyone to be talking about how dumb this rule is and how they need to change it. Plus, the St. Thomas Tommies is a perfect name.
