Juan Soto Says Other Teams Offered Him More Money Than The Mets Before He Ultimately Decided To Sign With The Amazins

Apologies for the almost 30 year old gif but I couldn't think of a better way to describe how Mets fans feel about this quote. 

I mean there is a better than good chance that what Soto said there is true if you are talking about the AAV of the deal, the total value if you stretched it out a bunch of years likely with a ton of deferred cash, or Toronto throwing around their Canadian funny money around to actually land a free agent they were linked to. Yet there is something nice about thinking Soto didn't just choose your team because that threw him the biggest giant of money compared to everyone else.

Don't get me wrong, the only thing I truly care about is that Juan Soto is a Met. He can claim he went to Queens because of the Mets family culture, bright future, and/or believing in an owner that proved he will throw his wallet that says Bad Motherfucker on it onto the bargaining table in order to close a deal. At the end of the day, I just want a generational talent entering his prime on my team. If he does so for reasons other than simply an amount of money my peon brain can't compute, even better.

As a New Yorker and more importantly a long-suffering Mets fan, I can understand why people are skeptical about what Soto said. However, if Soto's story is corroborated by this Mets hater of all people, I have no choice but to believe Soto.

Having an owner that will spend a shitload of money on players is important. But if that owner is also spending on infrastructure and improving the franchise off the field, that's when true change will happen. So while nobody will truly know why Juan Soto signed with the Mets, I am thrilled he did and by the look of it, he is thrilled too.

I cannot put into words how much better the vibes are today compared to this time last year and kindly ask the Baseball Gods to continue to allow us Mets fans to enjoy life for as long as we have an owner who does not disrespect their game by being a cheap fuck.
