McDonald's Has Removed Their Playscapes And Replaced Them With Two Screens

At first, my reaction to this was absolute disgust...look at how they massacred my boy! I recalled being a kid playing on random McDonald's playscapes with such joy. I took out my phone and recorded a video:

I even found a photo of my hometown McDonald's playscape in West Hartford, CT! A place that no longer exists, which pains me deeply. What they don't tell you about getting older is the little reminders along the way. Everyone is ready for the sports stars to be much younger than you and your high school friends having kids, but your hometown McDonald's closing? That fucks you up man. You start to hear the clock ticking.

Unfortunately, McDonald's taking down the playscapes makes sense. They were, most likely, insurance nightmares for the company. Parents through the years started to realize how disgusting it is to let the kids play inside of them, which then led to corporate slowly seeing the space taken up by the multi-colored playscape as an absolute waste. To have them replaced by screens is a dagger to the heart. I may be a nostalgia merchant bringing up what McDonald's playscapes, but I think most would agree that kids running around is better than them plopped in front of a screen.

My biggest takeaway from all of this is big screen has won. They have defeated us. Our society is helplessly addicted to screens and it starts at a young age. This is yet another sad example.

The world we grew up in doesn't exist anymore.
