Guys Being Dudes: San Jose Sharks' Tyler Toffoli Had To Have A Sleepover In The Team Hotel With Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith After Losing Bet That All 3 Would Score In A Game

Tyler Toffoli is an old, grizzled vet at this point. He won a Stanley Cup early in his career with the Kings in 2014. Since then, he's been the type of player who teams trade for at the deadline if they're trying to add that missing piece to help them out in their playoff push. If teams are looking to go on a run, they trade for Tyler Toffoli. So he's made stops in Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, New Jersey, Winnipeg, and now he's found himself in a new role in San Jose.
Now he's forced to take on a mentor role to 18-year-old Macklin Celebrini and 19-year-old Will Smith. The future of the San Jose Sharks are a couple of teens who don't even know how to do their own laundry yet. Tyler Toffoli has been tasked with being the team dad to these kids while they adjust to life in the NHL. But it looks like the boys took that a little too literally...
A bet was made the other day that if they all scored against Buffalo, ol' Uncle Tyler would have to drag a cot in to sleepover with the boys in their hotel room.
Now for a guy like Tyler Toffoli, he probably hasn't had a roommate on the road in a long time. 10+ years in the NHL, over 800 career games played, guys like that typically get to enjoy the comforts of having a room to themselves on the road. But something tells me that even if Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith end up playing 15 years together in San Jose, they'd still choose to be roommates on the road in 2040. They're like step brothers.
My guess is that they stay up all night long telling each other secrets. For a 32-year-old Tyler Toffoli, that sounds miserable. But not miserable enough to miss this empty netter after Celebrini and Smith already held up their end of the deal in the 3rd period.
Something tells me he wanted to have that sleepover.
Listen. The Sharks are terrible. They are in dead last place in the league. But they have something special going on here. Celebrni and Smith can be an elite duo in the league, plus they'll get to add another top 3 draft pick to the crew next year. Toffoli still has 3 years left on his deal to stick around as the team dad, and make it so these guys love coming to the rink every day. Filip Bystedt and Sam Dickinson coming up through the pipeline. I'll buy all the Sharks stock I can get right now.
